Edinburgh Sights, Sounds and Hotels

Holyrood Abbey was founded by King David I, in 1128. The story was that one day when David was out hunting, he was attacked by a stag ( full grown Deer ) and thrown from his horse, but then he was saved by a cross or " rood " which just appeared in his hand. King David then wanted to thank God for saving his life, so he named the Abbey after that incident, Holyrood Abbey. Many great events have taken place at the abbey, including two marriages of Mary, the Queen of Scotland. They have tried to restore the Abbey for many years, but after the roof collapsed in 1768, it was never repaired. The only surviving, original part of the Abbey that King David I founded, is a doorway in one corner. Today Holyrood Abbey is just a little more than ruins.

Edinburgh's Holyrood Abbey gives one the feeling of eerie mysticism, as do many parts of Edinburgh and all of beautiful Scotland. The warm and friendly Edinburgh hotels will ensure your return to this picturesque part of the world.
